Pete Doherty V Festival Chaos

Sound cuts out during show

A solo set from Pete Doherty at the weekend’s V Festival descended into chaos after the sound cut out on the singer.

Pete Doherty has been a busy man of late. As well as working on the new Babyshambles album the singer has been promoting his own solo long player and stoking the flames of a possible Libertines re-union.

In a recent interview the singer revealed that he wanted The Libertines to reform for a possible festival tour. The iconic group disintegrated after relations between Carl Barat and Pete Doherty collapsed, but the two seem to have rekindled their friendship of late.

Before then, however, Pete Doherty has been traversing the country on his own. Playing a series of solo shows the indie icon has been stunning fans during the festival season with career spanning sets.

Taking to the Virgin Media Union stage at V Festival, Doherty was met by frenzied cheers from fans. Plunging into ‘Last Of The English Roses’ the singer played songs by The Libertines, Babyshambles and also from his solo career.

In addition to this Pete Doherty also threw in a Talking Heads cover, with the singer clearly on good form.

Joined by producer Stephen Street on electric guitar, and Babyshambles members Drew McConnell and Adam Ficek, Pete Doherty rushed through the hits to the delight of fans.

The singer was also joined by a string section, keyboardist and two ballerinas. Dot Alison and former Bandits singer John Robinson also made appearances during the set.

Doherty also played ‘Happy Birthday’ to two friends, Georgina and Sally. The indie icon followed this with a snippet of ‘We Are QPR’ before playing a full band version of ‘Albion’.

However it all ended in chaos with the sound being cut during Pete Doherty’s final song – a rendition of the R&B classic ‘Twist & Shout’. Apologising to the crowd, fans bottled the stage after Doherty’s departure, chanting for his return.

‘Last Of The English Roses’
