Returning grunge giants Pearl Jam have stunned fans by adding an extra intimate date to their forthcoming UK tour.
Pearl Jam are one of the longest standing, and most highly regarded, groups of the grunge era. Formed by Eddie Vedder from the ashes of several Seattle bands Pearl Jam achieved instant success with their debut album ‘Ten’.
The group encountered criticism due to their fame, with Kurt Cobain being a notable critic. Since then, the band have changed and matured and on their new album ‘Backspacer’ Pearl Jam have been re-united with producer Brendan O’Brien.
O’Brien is responsible for many of their finest albums, and the pairing has led fans to expect a return to Pearl Jam’s grunge roots. However the band were struck by tragedy during recording sessions when bass player Jeff Ament was robbed and assaulted outside of the studio.
Now fully recovered, the band finished sessions earlier this year. With a clutch of new material under their belts Pearl Jam confirmed a UK tour with a number of huge dates.
However the band are keen to remember their past, and have announced a series of re-issues in the run up to their 20th anniversary in 2011. Pearl Jam are re-issued debut album ‘Ten’ earlier this year, adding a clutch of extras to their seminal release.
The album series will continue with Pearl Jam set to re-issue each of their studio albums with a host of extras and unreleased tracks. Other anniversary celebrations have been planned, with the band yet to confirm details of their celebratory bash.
Pearl Jam are due to kick off their UK arena shows next month. Containing some massive dates the tour will be preceded by a very special date in the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on August 11th.
Tickets go on sale next Thursday (July 23rd) although fans who pre-order ‘Backspacer’ can take part in a pre-sale for the show.
Pearl Jam are due to release ‘Backspacer’ on September 21st. The band have confirmed the following show:
