The line up for Kent’s acclaimed music festival Hop Farm has been announced with iconic British songwriter Paul Weller to headline.
It’s been a strange old year for Paul Weller. The one time frontman with The Jam and The Style Council is still producing valuable material, with his recent solo album ’22 Dreams’ scoring a host of fave reviews.
Still a massive draw on the live circuit, Paul Weller seems to work tirelessly crossing the country with his Mod-soul revue. Despite this success, few anticipated him being named ‘Best British Male’ at the Brit Awards recently – being handed the trophy by Adele the pair dissolved into a fit of giggles.
Joining the Modfather at Hop Farm this summer are some of British music’s biggest names. Manchester group Doves are due to release their much anticipated new album ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ soon and the band will perform on the main stage at the event.
Leeds group The Pigeon Detectives are also set to lay, and will be joined by up and coming Brit Award winners Florence And The Machine. Elsewhere on the bill, Mystery Jets are set to play and will be joined by Howling Bells who’s debut album ‘Radio Wars’ was released earlier this year.
Welsh psychedelic wonders Super Furry Animals are also due to play, and the band will unveil some tracks from their forthcoming album ‘Dark Days / Light Years’. Led by Gruff Rhys, the band are one of Britain’s most special acts and are also set to headline this summer’s Green Man festival.
The Hop Farm Festival returns as a truly unique experience, exclusively themed as an event totally free of ticket registration, with No VIP areas, No Branding or Sponsorship. Containing a host of unusual surprises, this is festival going like it used to be, retaining the feeling of a weekend in a place that is somehow special – and not an excuse to flog overly expensive lager.
Festival organiser Vince Power said in a statement “after some delay due to our licensing issues, we have managed to get a great line up off the ground in time for 2009, with an expected audience of 20,000. I’m very pleased with the bands, over 70 across the weekend, and £125 for a weekend ticket inc camping and car parking, making this the best value festival ticket this year. I’m looking forward to the weekend in July”
Hop Farm is set to take place between July 4th – 5th.
