The Modfather himself Paul Weller is set to play a show at this year’s massive Isle Of Wight scooter rally.
Contrary to popular belief, Mod never really died it just went underground. With a generation of young fans entering the Northern Soul network, some Mods also broke off to form the long lived scooter scene.
Cutting down their Vespas to make them run faster, the scooter scene remains hugely popular across the country. A network of rallies regularly attracts thousands, with the Isle Of Wight holiday weekender remaining an enduring staple of the scene.
This year fans will be rejoicing as The Modfather himself Paul Weller stops by for a visit. Recently releasing his spectacular album ‘Wake Up The Nation’ the singer is on his best run of form for more than a decade.
A sensational live act, Weller is capable of drawing on the full resources of his back catalogue. The singer mixes old favourites from The Jam with modern tracks, throwing in the odd Style Council rarity to keep things fresh.
Due to play at Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle Of Wight, Paul Weller will be joined by a raft of 60s inspired acts. The Bees are due to perform, with Imelda May and Brand New Heavies also due to take part.
Meanwhile, a stellar line up of DJs include a contribution from Acid Jazz founder Eddie Piller. Sure, the label might not have the mainstream profile it once enjoyed but recent releases by acts such as The Third Degree demonstrate that the imprint has well and truly kept the faith.
Running alongside the annual scooter rally, Paul Weller will play the following show:
