British songwriting icon Paul Weller has confirmed details of a new UK tour, due to kick off in November.
Paul Weller began his career in The Jam. Bursting out of Woking, the group’s high octane take on R&B was blended with the punk energy of the time to produce something timeless.
With their three button suits, bowling shoes and songs that spoke of everyday life, The Jam became icons. Hugely influential, Liam Gallagher even named his clothing line ‘Pretty Green’ after one of their songs.
Splitting at the height of their fame, Paul Weller went on to form the often mistakenly maligned group The Style Council before embarking on a sensational solo career. Containing numerous hits Weller’s solo success has seen The Modfather come roaring back into fashion.
Yet the singer is not keen to rest on his laurels. Paul Weller released ’22 Dreams’ last year, a stunning double album that ranks among his most ambitious efforts to date. However the songwriter was rewarded when he was named ‘Best British Male’ at the Brit Awards.
This was followed by some considerably sadder news for the icon. Weller’s father John Weller had been the singer’s manager for over thirty years, guiding him from the Working Men’s Clubs of the south coast to stardom.
Falling ill at home, John Weller never recovered and his son was forced to cancel numerous tour dates in order to have time to reflect on his loss.
Yet Paul Weller is due to come roaring back, just as his father would have wanted. The Modfather has confirmed a series of UK tour dates, which are due to kick off in November.
