Paul Smith Adds Solo Dates

Plus debut solo single

Maximo Park singer Paul Smith has revealed details of his new single and a quick solo jaunt.

Maximo Park are one of the biggest indie bands around, capable of winning critical plaudits and headlining festivals. However when singer Paul Smith began writing material outside of their trademark sound, he knew it was time for a change.

With the band set to take a short break, Paul Smith began stockpiling solo material. Recorded in sessions earlier this year, forthcoming solo album ‘Margins’ is quite different from his day job.

Known for their indie-punk anthems, Maximo Park fans will be surprised by Paul Smith’s new sound. Stripped down, the album will be preceded by the release of forthcoming single ‘Our Lady Or Lourdes’.

Due to be released on November 1st, the single will come backed with new track ‘Loop For Becca’. Meanwhile, the download package will contain a version of Arthur Russell’s classic track ‘A Little Lost’.

With plenty of echo and sighing melodies, Arthur Russell is an important name to drop for Paul Smith. Written in one 24 hour period, ‘Our Lady Of Lourdes’ is an extremely unusual introduction to his solo project.

“The song is like a short story describing a sign language conversation. It also touches on how religion provides comfort to those who need it”, explains Smith.

Full length album ‘Margins’ is set to be released on October 11th, through Paul Smith’s own label Billingham Records. An intimate affair, the material was crafted in co-operation with Andy Hodson.

Set to head out on tour, Paul Smith will flesh out his material with a backing band. “I’ve been waiting to play these songs live for a while now so that should ensure an excitable performance although the songs will require a different execution to those of Maximo Park; less frenetic movement but no less emotion or commitment.”

27 Leeds Brudenell
28 Birmingham Glee Club
29 Bristol Thekla
