Set in the beating heart of the musical hub that is Manchester, Parklife returns for its fourth run. A city that has churned out countless musical talent over the decades plays host yet again to a fest packed with both old and new talent. This year, the weekender is shifting over from Platt Fields to Heaton Park, with the festival outgrowing its previous location and now in need of larger space for fervent crowds to throw shapes. The shiny new spot seems up to the task – grounds steeped in history that have already hosted legendary concerts from The Stone Roses and Oasis.
Ushering in the British summertime of music, the two-dayer will kick off at the beginning of June. Stepping things up a notch in terms of both size and music, 2013’s line-up boasts more bands and DJs than ever before.
In association with Manchester’s Now Wave promotion team, Clash will be hosting its very own stage – showcasing acts like Toro y Moi and Post War Years, as well as our fiery-headed One To Watch, King Krule. Joining them will be none other than rock legend Johnny Marr, and revered bands The Horrors and Everything Everything.
Saturday’s main stage will see performances from chart-leading performers such as Plan B, soulstress Jessie Ware and The Maccabees. In addition, Manchester’s very own Warehouse Project have curated a stage with unmissable electronic artists such as Disclosure, Four Tet, John Talabot and Caribou’s recent alias Daphni, and the hyperactive Danny Brown rampaging about the stage. Hospitality will be hosting their usual star-studded lineup while Ibiza’s Circo Loco will be rolling out some serious house talent. Another stage from Manchester’s Drop the Mustard will see artists like Redlight, Pearson Sound and Ben UFO dropping beats, and Manc promoters Metropolis hosting a decade-celebrating arena with Goldie bringing his dnb gold, Sub Focus and Benga set to smash it underneath some top notch emcees.
On the Sunday, the main stage will see arena-smashing four piece Rudimental playing a colossal live set, alongside chart faves Example, Rita Ora and Wretch 32. Clash’s stage will be speaker-blasting in full swing, together with a second WHP stage featuring the likes of glossy house demigod Julio Bashmore, Eats Everything and tech overlord Scuba. Excitingly, Hudson Mohawke is curating his own stage, featuring his own project TNGHT with Lunice, some of the Numbers crew, rapper Action Bronson and ‘Imma Read’ newbies Zebra Katz. David “Ram Jam” Rodigaaan is bringing his signal to his own stage, with dubstyle artists like The Bug, Shy FX, Zinc and Dub Phizix. Finally, the Big Top will play host to huge crowd-pleasing acts such as TEED and SMD.
