Manchester music legends Oasis have refused to back down in the row over their cancelled gigs in China.
Oasis recently announce a pair of shows in China, which would have been their first in the Communist nation. However the gigs were pulled at the last minute with the Oasis camp alleging that an appearance by Noel Gallagher at a Free Tibet concert was to blame.
The promoters hit back, arguing that the cancellation was due to economic factors. The band are able to play a show in the Chinese controlled territory of Hong Kong, set to take place shortly after the cancelled Chinese shows.
The row is rumbling on, however, with Oasis reiterating their initial claims. Noel Gallagher performed a solo set at a Free Tibet concert in 1997. Other prominent supporters of the cause include rap legends The Beastie Boys.
A spokesperson for the group told the NME that the shows were on course to sell out, and that the gigs were being promoted by the Chinese wing of the massive corporation Ticketmaster.
“We don’t want to dignify this nonsense with a response,” they explained. “Our promoter, as already documented, was Ticketmaster China and the shows had each already sold in excess of 3,500 tickets and were on course to sell out. End of story.”
Oasis are currently on their South East Asian tour.
