Manchester giants Oasis played an intimate show at the Roundhouse last night (July 21st) with singer Liam Gallagher appearing to be in a foul mood.
Oasis have been touring heavily of late, with the busy schedule appearing to take its toll on the band. Noel Gallagher recently wrote an angry blog after sound problems during their performance at Benicassim labelling the show a “waste of time”.
The group had suffered sound problems at their Wembley Stadium and Heaton Park shows, and it appears that in Noel’s book three strikes and you’re out.
Brother Liam Gallagher, meanwhile, recently took exception to fans clapping to enthusiastically during a show at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena. An onstage rant saw the singer booed by the crowd, while the rest of the band seemed rather bemused by the turn of events.
Taking part in the iTunes festival, Oasis were set to play in one of their most intimates dates this year in London’s Roundhouse venue. However things began to go wrong almost immediately with a member of the crowd appearing to throw something at Liam Gallagher.
It is not clear if the singer was struck or not, though Gallagher immediately gestured to backstage staff. Remaining in a foul mood for the duration of the show, Liam Gallagher singled out one fan labelling him “fucking uni boy” and “fat boy” during the show.
Before the band had even struck up the first notes of their traditional opener ‘Rock N Roll Star’ Liam Gallagher said: “Is that some fucking shitbag who’s throwing fucking lager, can’t handle a soft arse from fucking Camden town? Well get on this, fucking student…”
Later the singer offered to meet the audience member for a face-off. “Here you are, student, if you want me to (go) offstage, don’t be throwing fucking pound coins. Why don’t you try and come up here and fucking make me come off? Alright dickhead.”
The ongoing iTunes festival has featured a raft of top names, with fans gaining free entry after online registration. More than one million people applied for tickets, with the shows being made available as a free download soon after the performance.
The Oasis show should make interesting listening. At one point Liam Gallagher referred to the the competition by saying “hope it’s fucking moody for ya. You pay peanuts, you get monkeys on crack.”
Later the singer turned his wrath on the residents of nearby Camden Town, asking “is there anybody actually born and bred in Camden town here tonight? Prove it. Show us how fucking tight your jeans are. And your pointy shoes are. I’m fucking serious.”
Ending their set with a cover of The Beatles’ ‘I Am The Walrus’ Liam Gallagher stalked off, barely looking back on the crowd.
