Noel Gallagher Plays Royal Albert Hall Show

Oasis songwriter in first solo show

One time Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher has played his first solo show since leaving the Manchester band.

Leaving behind Oasis after a final row with Liam Gallagher, songwriter Noel Gallagher almost immediately began plans for a solo career. The guitarist had previously played a solo show at the Royal Albert Hall, and had long spoken of a stockpile of material.

Entering his solo career, Noel Gallagher recently confirmed that he will play just two shows in 2010. The songwriter scheduled two shows as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust, taking over the Royal Albert Hall with a number of friends.

Last night (March 25th) Noel Gallagher played the first show of his solo career. Performing several tracks from the Oasis back catalogue, the singer decided to include a number of B-sides alongside classic songs.

Fans called for new material throughout, with Noel Gallagher choosing to keep his cards close to his chest.

Joined by former Oasis band mate Gem Archer on second guitar, the band was completed by keyboard player Jay Darlington and a drummer. The minimal set up was matched by an eight piece all female orchestra and the Crouch End Choir.

Entering onstage to huge cheers, Noel Gallagher simply said “hello” before ripping into a cheeky version of ‘(It’s Good) To Be Free’. Joined by Crouch End Choir for some tracks, Noel Gallagher played ‘Don’t Go Away’ then quipped: “I don’t know if you’ve noticed – this is exactly the same set I played two years ago. But it’s OK – I’m wearing different clothes.”

Closing his main set with 1994 single ‘Whatever’ the songwriter then encored with ‘The Masterplan’, ‘Married With Children’ and closer ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’.

Noel Gallagher played:

‘(It’s Good) To Be Free’
‘Talk Tonight’

‘Half The World Away’

‘Listen Up’
‘Sad Song’
‘Wonderwall’
‘Rockin’ Chair’
‘Slide Away’
‘Digsy’s Dinner’
