Globe trotting stadium rockers Muse have been ruled out of appearing at this year’s Glastonbury festival by organiser Emily Eavis.
After a year’s hard graft it is all go on Worthy Farm. The fences are in place, the Pyramid has been built and fans are pouring into the Somerset site in their tens of thousands. With some stellar headliners, rumours remain on who could make surprise appearances at the festival.
Muse and Coldplay were amongst the names in the hat to stun festival goers. The bands were due to perform at the Park Stage, according to rumour. Some fans even went as far as making a fake Twitter site for Michael Eavis and posted several messages claiming the bands were making their way to the site.
Reported by some news outlets, the revelation spread like wildfire. Now organiser Emily Eavis has moved to quash those rumours in a new statement to the NME.
Yesterday (June 24th) the event confirmed Klaxons as special performers for the Park Stage, with more apparently due to be announced. “I’m glad Klaxons announced themselves so their fans know they can catch them there, we have another surprise on Friday and it’s really exciting for us,” said Eavis. “It’s not despite the rumours. We’re well excited.”
Emily Eavis cited one songwriter as being a special draw at Glastonbury. “Neil Young is a massive deal for me personally,” she declared. “It’s been a lifelong thing to get him here, it’s a dream come true getting him, so I won’t be missing that!”
Recently Michael Eavis – Emily’s father – announced that he would stand down from the festival in two years. Michael Eavis founded Glastonbury in 1971, and has remained at the helm ever since.
However time catches up with everyone, and after an extremely stressful event in 2008 Michael Eavis has decided to step back from the day to day running of the event. However his daughter doubts if Michael Eavis will really step down.
“I don’t think he’ll really retire,” she admitted. “It works really well at the moment.”
Confirmed headliners for this year’s Glastonbury event include Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Blur, Franz Ferdinand, Doves and more. As ever, the event is about much more than this, with the Glastonbury experience remaining one of the most thrilling in British music.
