New Order For Benicassim

As controversy continues...

New Order are due to perform at Benicassim, as the controversy of their re-union continues.

New Order are a group, a band in the classic sense of the word. A collaboration between four musicians, if you remove any one integral then the whole thing collapses.

Yet when the legendary Factory band reformed last year, no one thought to tell Peter Hook. Steaming ahead, New Order have confirmed a number of live shows including an appearance at Benicassim.

Set to perform at the Spanish event, New Order will be joined by The Horrors, Crystal Castles and more.

Planning a summer of live activities, the band could yet find themselves in court. Speaking to the NME recently, Peter Hook confirmed that the battle over their reformation is currently in the hands of his legal team.

“It’s in the hands of the lawyers,” he said. “The point is that they shouldn’t be using the New Order name without me and it’s up to the lawyers.”

The row recently extended beyond British shores, with Big Day Out promoter Ken West recently lashing out at the group during a controversial interview.

By no means the only victims of his tongue, the promoter told FasterLouder that he objected to the current re-union. “New Order are amazing,” he said. “But without Peter Hook they’re not New Order – simple as that, so I don’t know what Future were thinking. I couldn’t do it because I’m Hooky’s mate; I like Bernard (Sumner) and Gillian (Gilbert), but it’s like “damn, that’s a shame” – it’s not as bad as INXS, but they should have just called it a day.”

“It was a legacy there – don’t ruin it. I was in the studios when they were rehearsing Blue Monday – that hasn’t yet been released anywhere, and I thought “that’s all right – that might sell!”
