Legendary songsmith Neil Young closed this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival yesterday by playing a hits-heavy set to over 50,000 fans.
Bounding on-stage and straight in to ‘From Hank To Hendrix’, the singer went on to play a selection of classic tracks such as an extended ‘Hey Hey My My’, and a triumphant ‘Rockin In The Free World’.
Switching between his customary acoustic and electric, Young was joined by a full band, jokingly citing the crowd as “alcoholics” before tearing into ‘Mansion On The Hill’ from his 1990 album ‘Ragged Glory’, as well as ‘Cinnamon Girl’ and ‘Down By The River’.
His final song saw the singer mount a mass singalong with his now-customary cover of The Beatles’ ‘A Day In The Life’, which climaxed with the singer deploying mountains of feedback from the stage, laughing whilst snapping guitar strings.
Other highlights from the weekend saw The Pixies play a singles-heavy set, with Kim Deal describing the festival as “very pretty” before playing ‘Debaser’, ‘Wave Of Mutilation’ and ‘Gouge Away’ back to back.
Neil Young is now set to headline this year’s Glastonbury as well as Hyde Park Calling with Fleet Foxes.
Young is also set to release his massive, 10 disk retrospective ‘Archives Vol.1 (1963-1972)’, which you can read about in detail HERE.
