Legendary British rockers Mott The Hoople have confirmed more details of their re-union shows at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
Mott The Hoople were, in the brief period they existed, one of the most revered groups in Britain. Largely missing the success they were due, the band nonetheless had a massive live following who would passionately follow them from show to show.
In the main loathed by the established music press, Mott The Hoople fell in between two camps. Much too experimental to be ‘glam’ they were equally too raucous to be lumped in with more ‘progressive’ acts.
Instead, Mott The Hoople defiantly trod their own path and we loved for doing so. Eventually collapsing in on themselves in 1974, the group inspired a raft of rockers including one Mick Jones – later to be one of the geniuses behind The Clash.
Since their split the band have never appeared onstage together. Lead singer Ian Hunter went on to have a half-hearted solo career before disappearing out of the music industry, while the band’s albums lapsed in and out of print.
However earlier this year Mott The Hoople shocked their fans by announcing an ambitious comeback. More than 35 years after they were thrown out of the Royal Albert Hall for being too damn noisy, the group are set to live again.
Announcing a five night stand at London’s Hammersmith Apollo Mott The Hoople shocked and delighted their fans. Beginning on October 1st the shows will run for five nights, in which old memories will be revived and new ones made.
Fans should act quickly, however – three nights are already completely sold out. The last time Mott The Hoople played here they recorded the resulting carnage for a live album – this time round the ears may be a little older but the amps will be just as loud.
Mott The Hoople will play the following dates:
October
1 London Hammersmith Apollo
2 London Hammersmith Apollo
3 London Hammersmith Apollo
4 London Hammersmith Apollo
5 London Hammersmith Apollo
