Manchester indie legend Morrissey has been forced to cancel a string of American appearances due to a mysterious illness.
As lead singer with The Smiths and with a solo career now reaching back over two decades, Morrissey is truly a giant of British music. Revered in the United States, The Smiths rarely toured the country making each Morrissey appearance very special.
In the early 90s a show by the singer smashed the ticket record for the Madison Square Gardens in New York, while the artist is strangely popular with the hispanic population – especially in his former home of California.
The cancellations affect the opening four shows of his US tour, which was due to start in Florida on Saturday (February 28th). Morrissey has taken ill with some un-named ailment, and the following three shows have also been cancelled as a precaution.
The singer’s new album ‘Years Of Refusal’ is a striking return, full of rage at a world he feels has slighted him. Lead single ‘I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris’ was a typically witty and lavish return – to read our opinion on the album just click here!
It is not known whether the cancelled dates will be re-arranged. Morrissey is expected to resume the tour in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on March 6th.
Morrissey has cancelled the following tour dates:
