John McClure is set to return this summer with his indie-rap supergroup Mongrel for a small run of shows.
The supergroup, formed by highly-outspoken Sheffield singer ‘The Reverend’ John McClure, ex-Arctic Monkeys bassist Andy Nicholson and Babyshambles’ Drew McConnell, are set to play a series of live dates in May, as well as headlining the multicultural festival No Passport Necessary in London.
Well known for their outspoken political beliefs, the band are made up of UK rappers Lowkey (formerly of Poisonous Poets) and Purple, as well as activist McClure, Mongrel released their debut ‘Better Than Heavy’ in February.
The band recently ran into trouble when rapper Lowkey was detained before on a recent trip to Israel. Subjected to a lengthy interrogation, the rapper was placed on the first plane back to the UK, leaving fans and human rights activists enraged. Ironically, the group were due to perform in Palestinian refugee camps, designed to raise funds for local charities.
