John McClure’s indie-rap supergroup Mongrel are to headline a May Day concert at London’s Roundhouse, as part of the festival of multiculturalism.
Event organisers for the ‘No Passport Necessary’ gig chose the band for their crossover fusion of hip hop and indie genres, with Mongrel hosting members of Reverend & The Makers, Arctic Monkeys and UK MC Lowkey among others.
Taking place on the 4th May, the event will aim to bring together a huge variety of musical genres, cultures and scenes, many often neglected by the mainstream media.
Organiser Rob Kahn has spoken out about the event, adding “tackling themes shielded away from by many mainstream musicians, Mongrel are a celebration of everything that is good about Britain, at the same time as pointing out its flaws”.
Other bands on the eclectic bill are Asian band Swami, British reggae don Tippa Irie and many more.
