Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has praised this summer’s event, labelling it the best in the history of the festival.
Founded in 1971, Glastonbury is one of Britain’s most important musical events. Vast in size and ambition, the event regularly gives huge sums to charity whilst also managing to bag high profile headliners.
Springing back from the criticism launched at last year’s event, Glastonbury launched a new ticket scheme which has been enormously successful. Fans could buy a ticket by putting down a deposit, then paying the rest as and when they could.
Much imitated, the scheme saw tickets snapped up by feverish festival fans with Glastonbury selling out well in advance of the line up being confirmed. Promising to stick to less controversial acts, Glastonbury managed to bag a string of musical legends.
This summer Worthy Farm boasted appearances from Blur, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen with all three impressing festival boss Eavis. In a press conference the organiser claimed that this year’s event had been the best ever.
“Having Neil Young, who I’ve been waiting for for 39 years, and Bruce Springsteen just appear out of the blue – and of course Blur tonight – we’ve got three major, major headliners,” he told reporters.
“Neil Young pleased all the old hippie types and Springsteen pleased everyone else. He did a hell of a show, what energy he has at 58 years of age is amazing.”
“What a show! It was probably the best show he’s done in his life. What a starting point, and you have everything else as well, of course!”
Bruce Springsteen is famously fond of lengthy shows. The Boss played for over three hours at Glastonbury, before taking to the stage at Hard Rock Calling under twenty four hours later.
Unfortunately, Bruce Springsteen’s set meant that Glastonbury ran over its curfew, meaning that the event has landed a £3000 fine. However Michael Eavis has volunteered to pay the fine himself as he was so impressed by the musician’s set.
Meanwhile the part-time farmer claimed that he already has some ideas for next year’s event. “We’ve got some headliners who haven’t played for a few years and some who have never played here,” he said. “I’m not saying names, it will be the same old guessing game.
“But they’re all on the phone at the moment so it will be special, but it will not be better than this year, it was just fantastic!”
