Outspoken singer M.I.A. has announced a one off London show for November 10th.
London may well be the closest M.I.A. has come to having a home. As a child the singer was evacuated from Sri Lanka, moving to the UK with her family in order to flee from political persecution.
Coming of age in the capital, the diverse array of sounds around her infected M.I.A.’s music. Now living in New York, London clearly holds a special place in her heart judging by recent performances.
Always eager to cause mischief, M.I.A. appeared at The Big Chill recently and invited fans onto the stage during ‘Paper Planes’. An almighty ruckus ensued, with more than 200 punters finding their way to the front.
Security intervened, and the show was pulled before it’s scheduled stop point. Following on from this, M.I.A. was confirmed to play a one off show in Manchester as part of the Annie Mac Presents… tour.
Due to play the Warehouse Project later this year, the singer will be joined by long term collaborator Rusko. Now M.I.A. has extended this short burst of dates with another one off show in London.
Taking place on November 10th, the Brixton Academy show sees M.I.A. return to the capital. Aside from festival appearances, headline shows by the singer in her former home are rare on the ground.
Set to play the show on November 10th, the gig is her first since the release of third album ‘MAYA’ in July. Tickets for the show will be in high demand, with fans able to grab passes from Friday (August 20th) at 9am.
