One of Ireland’s hottest parties has unveiled its bill with MGMT, Orbital and many more confirmed for Electric Picnic.
Set in County Laois, Electric Picnic has earned a reputation as a top class event through a very selective bill. None of this ironic ‘pop star plays festival’ nonsense that some festivals go in for – at Electric Picnic what you see is what you get, and what you get is some of the top acts around.
Brooklyn space cadets MGMT provided the festival with one of its defining anthems last summer, with ‘Kids’ epic synth line being sung at camp sites up and down the nation. The group have been working on new material, which could well be unveiled at Electric Picnic.
Rave heroes Orbital are also set to play the Irish event. Helmed by the Hartnoll brothers, Orbital were fired up by the Acid House explosion and began making music with minimal equipment. Yet somehow they crafted hits such as ‘Chime’ which have become historic markers in British dance music.
The pair are playing only a select few festival dates this summer, making their appearance at Electric Picnic very special indeed. Klaxons attempt to recreate that rave spirit with their live shows, and the band will preview tracks from their forthcoming second album at Electric Picnic.
The Flaming Lips are renowned as one of the wildest and weirdest live bands on the planet, and the audience at Electric Picnic will be able to judge for themselves when the group roll into town. With shows frequently ending in singer Wayne Coyne journeying out over the audiences heads in a giants bubble, you just know that this will be worth seeing.
Other acts confirmed for Electric Picnic include Bat For Lashes and post punk heroes Magazine.
Electric Picnic takes place between September 4th – 6th.
