Maximo Park Play Charity Show

Thousands of fans turned away

Returning Newcastle punk funk types Maximo Park have played a hometown gig for charity which saw fans queue down the street for a glimpse of their heroes.

Maximo Park emerged from the great post punk revival signed to eminent electronic label Warp Records. One of the first rock groups to sign with the label, Maximo Park released their debut album ‘A Certain Trigger’ to great acclaim in 2005.

Since then the group have gone on to become one of Britain’s biggest acts. Regularly selling out arena tours, fans have been on tenterhooks since news of their forthcoming third album broke.

Titled ‘Quicken The Heart’ it saw the group forego the fog on the Tyne for the sunshine of Los Angeles. Little has been heard of the album, but Maximo Park has produced a download single ‘Wraithlike’ which is available now.

Limited edition vinyl copies of the song were available at the charity show in Newcastle College Performance Academy. Although the venue only has a 400 capacity, up to two and a half thousand fans queued outside in the hope of seeing the band leading to thousands being turned away.

Those left disappointed can console themselves with the news that the band have announced a major UK tour which includes – you guessed it! – a hometown date.

Maximo Park are due to release their new single ‘The Kids Are Sick Again’ on May 4th. It will be followed by their new album ‘Quicken The Heart’ later in May.
