Prog-metal behemoths Mastodon have mapped a series of summer shows to celebrate the release of their towering new album ‘Crack The Skye’ (full Clash Music review of which can be found Here).
Since forming in 2000, the Atlantan four-piece have unleashed a string of brutally heavy, ever-adventurous albums, with the band’s legion of fans turning them into one of the world’s biggest cult metal outfits.
Mastodon’s fourth album saw them continue their rise, melding a mammoth sonic assault with explorations of astral travel, galaxy theories and wormholes.
The album has also been seen as the band’s most personal collection, with drummer Brann Dailor citing ‘Crack the Skye’ as a homage to his sister, Skye Dailor, who commited suicide as a teenager. The title also comes from guitarist Brent Hinds’ recent accident cracking his head on a pavement, which led to severe haemorrhaging.
Mastodon are to play the massive Knebworth festival Sonisphere in August alongside Nine Inch Nails and Metallica, playing four UK dates in June beforehand.
