Welsh rock legends Manic Street Preachers are set to launch a massive tour of the UK previewing their new album.
The group formed in Blackwood in the late 80s, tired of an increasingly moribund indie scene. Boasting that they would sell twelve million copies of their debut album and then split up, Manic Street Preachers are still here more than a decade later.
During that time, however, the band have lost original guitarist and lyricist Richey Edwards. The cult hero went missing in 1995, and was declared dead by his family last year. The lyricist left behind a series of notebooks, which have now been used by the band as the basis of their new album.
‘Journal For Plague Lovers’ was recorded last year with Steve Albini at his studio in Chicago. It is the band’s first since ‘Send Away The Tigers’ in 2007, which marked a return to firm by the group.
The group are set to play a series of tour dates before the release of the album, which include performances at Glasgow’s historic Barrowlands venue and a Welsh date at Llandudno.
