Manic Street Preachers have been forced to cancel two upcoming shows at the Brixton Academy.
One of the hardest working bands in the UK, Manic Street Preachers have always taken on heavy tours. The band seem to thrive in the live arena, rejoicing in a close-knit relationship with their fans.
Returning this year with their new album ‘Postcards From A Young Man’ the trio intended to have one last stab at the mainstream. Manic Street Preachers broke into the Top Ten, but the subsequent tour has not gone quite to plan.
Announcing a large nationwide tour, Manic Street Preachers sold out some dates almost immediately. The band played several stunning shows, drawing on the full power of their back catalogue.
However the tour has taken its toll on the band. Singer James Dean Bradfield complained of feeling unwell during the week, forcing the postponement of a show in Birmingham on Tuesday (October 26th).
Now it seems that his condition has worsened. Diagnosed with acute laryngitis James Dean Bradfield has been told by doctors to rest his voice. As a result, Manic Street Preachers have been forced to shelve two London shows.
Set to perform at Brixton Academy tonight (October 28th) and tomorrow (October 29th), those shows have now been cancelled. Issuing a statement himself, James Dean Bradfield apologised to fans.
“I would like to personally apologise to the fans. Nothing makes us feel worse than having to postpone a show. We were particularly looking forward to playing two nights at Brixton as we have such special memories of previous gigs at this venue.”
“To say we are gutted about this situation is putting it mildly!”
Manic Street Preachers have managed to re-arrange the shows. All tickets will remain valid for the following dates:
December
14 Birmingham Academy
January
21 London Brixton Academy
22 London Brixton Academy
