After months of appealing, Madonna was today told she could take another child home from Malawi, after the pop queen was recently denied the ability to do so.
The singer has already famously adopted a young boy from the African state, however
failed in her initial bid to return and adopt four year-old orphan Chifundo ‘Mercy’ James in April, as she had not lived in the country for 18 months.
Last month, a local judge ruled against the singer’s adoption appeal, arguing that she did not meet residency laws in the African nation. Malawian law states adoptive parents must be resident in the country for 18 to 24 months.
However, news reports on BBC state that due to her previous commitment to helping disadvantaged children, Malawi’s Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo today stated she now could, also referred to her financial stability at the hearing.
Madonna herself was not present, however has in the past attended only to leave and vent her anger at the decision to a daily African newspaper following a negative verdict.
Madonna has peviously adopted a child, David Banda, from a Malawian orphanage in 2006, before attempting to gain custody of Mercy James. She has not commented on the new progress of her appeal.
