M83 Team Up With Orchestra

Pair perform Bloc Party cover

French electronic guru M83 has performed a special collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, with an extremely unusual set.

Since releasing his new album ‘Saturdays=Youth’ Anthony Gonzalez has watched his profile soar. Critics raved over his ethereal blend of electronics and hushed vocals, while his peers began to elevate M83 to new heights.

Support slots with Kings Of Leon and The Killers saw M83 exposed to massive new audiences, and left Gonazalez with fresh and exciting new challenges.

Perhaps the most unusual of these has been his collaboration with Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Blending electronics with vast orchestrations, the two acts played five songs together.

The twin talents played an incredible version of M83’s remix of the Bloc Party song ‘Pioneers’ on March 7th. The performance featured a unique orchestral arrangement while Gonzalez manned the keyboards and computer to deliver samples of Bloc Party frontman Keke Okereke’s voice.

Speaking to NME Gonzalez said before the show “we’ll play tracks that are more like orchestral material — mostly songs from my previous albums, for example ‘Before The Dawn Heals Us’, because I don’t think it’s really interesting to play pop songs with the orchestra.”
