Cardiff based twee-pop heroes Los Campesinos! are set to return to the UK after announcing a new tour.
Los Campesinos! have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of energy. The band formed while still at university, yet within a dozen gigs wound up being signed by respected indie label Wichita. Live, the band are a whirlwind of energy, all jaunty riffs and biting lyrics.
Debut album ‘Hold On Now Youngster…’ was released to acclaim in 2008, yet arguably failed to capture their onstage zest. Touring the United States the band found the time to write, record and release another batch of songs less than six months later.
Refusing to label ‘We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed’ as an album, it may well be the closest Los Campesinos! have come to releasing a fully realised vision of who they are. Maturing as songwriters and musicians, the record never loses sight of their OCD charm.
Returning to the United States to work on their second album proper, Los Campesinos! recruited John Goodmanson to man the controls. Taking place in Stamford, Connecticut sessions for the album took place between bursts of touring.
The band announced on their blog recently that the album was complete, but refused to discuss details further. Los Campesinos! were dealt a blow recently when their keyboard player Aleks Campesinos! left to continue her studies.
A replacement has already been recruited, with Los Campesinos! set to unveil their new line up on a forthcoming tour. Playing new material on the jaunt, the band will preview their new album with a series of dates.
