America’s most celebrated music festival Lollapalooza has revealed its full line up and daily schedule.
Lollapalooza was founded by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell in the early 90s. Envisaged as a cross between a music festival and a travelling circus the event wreaked carnage across a post-grunge America.
However all good things come to an end, and eventually organisers bit the bullet and found a permanent site. Lollapalooza now takes place in Chicago’s Grant Park and has become one of the largest – and certainly the most respected event – in North America.
This year’s festival promises to be a boom year. The event kicks off on August 7th with sets from the like of Fleet Foxes and Of Montreal. The Decemberists will play their new album ‘The Crane Wife’ before British sensations White Lies perform tracks their chart topping self-titled effort.
Headliners this year include Kings Of Leon and Depeche Mode. Electro rock legends Depeche Mode were heavily linked with a Glastonbury performance but apparently turned down the Worthy Farm event after seeing the rest of the bill.
Big names on the second day include Santigold, who a currently working on her second album with Pharrell Williams. Sheffield indie giants Arctic Monkeys will begin their assault on America while headliners Tool and Beastie Boys will see out the day.
The final day of Lollapalooza begins with the likes of Bat For Lashes and Friendly Fires, before making way for a true legend. Lou Reed was the guiding force behind the Velvet Underground before going solo, leaving behind him a glittering back catalogue.
The iconic songwriter will play a special set at the Chicago event before the event is closed by The Killers and Jane’s Addiction. Led by Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell, the band are currently touring with Nine Inch Nails, brining together two of the biggest groups in American rock music.
