Local Natives Reject Fleet Foxes Comparison

Ahead of their UK tour

Local Natives have rejected comparisons to Fleet Foxes ahead of their November tour.

Hailing from Florida, Local Natives have a neat line in songwriting influenced by Americana. The band’s close harmonies joyously recall The Beach Boys, adding a summer lilt to their voices.

However the band have been dogged by comparisons to one band: Fleet Foxes. Perhaps it wouldn’t have been so bad had the Seattle group not been so successful, but the enormous coverage given to Fleet Foxes rather stole the Florida band’s thunder.

Returning to Britain for a final burst of tour dates, Local Natives rejected the comparison. “It’s really frustrating. When we were writing this record, we hadn’t even heard Fleet Foxes,” guitarist Taylor Rice told The Guardian.

“There’s a difference between being an artist and being somebody who looks at making music as a business, and we all truly are artists, so that’s why when there’s some sort of implication I take it personally and get very fired up.”

Continuing, keyboard player Kelcey Ayer joked about the impact the Seattle band have had on Local Natives. “When Fleet Foxes came out, Ryan was like, ‘Guys, this is going to fuck up our shit.'”

Returning to a quickfire blast of tour dates, Local Natives are set to open the shows in Manchester. Taking place on November 12th, the gig in the city’s Club Academy venue will be followed by several shows across the country.

Finishing in Bristol on November 18th, the tour will see support coming from ‘Track Of The Day’ veterans Superhumanoids.

Local Natives have confirmed the following shows:

November
12 Manchester Club Academy
13 Glasgow King Tuts
17 Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms
18 Bristol Thekla
