What went down at The Black Heart on a Tuesday night? The real question is, what didn’t go down? British nu-metal band Wargasm linked up with iconic metal guitar brand Jackson for a night that summoned rock fans from across the UK to the legendary Camden music hub.
For those acquainted with The Black Heart, you’ll know that a wall of sound greets you upon entry, but last night, it wasn’t a greeting, it was a beckoning. A baptism to the world of Wargasm. The bustle amongst the crowd, the energy, the buzz – you could tell this wasn’t going to be regular Tuesday night at the local. Wargasm were here, and so were their loyal fans. But this night was different, and you could feel that seismic anticipation. Why? Two finalists, from a competition set by Jackson in September, were to join Wargasm onstage for a ’shred off’; a test to see which finalist had the fastest shredding abilities to be crowned winner and take home an American Series SoloistTM SL3.
But first, on-stepped Lake Malice to give a stellar supporting performance – the crowd were granted their evening’s first fix of rip-roaring rock. Wargasm then followed and created the Thunderdrome they promised. The arena was open, ‘Superfiend’ announced their presence.
For fans, this show wasn’t a flash in the pan, it was an accessible journey and an arm around the shoulder from the band. One of the finalists, Jack Geddes, did a full circle in a month. From last month taking photos of the band performing, to joining them on stage to a sell-out crowd. But who went home with the prize was Taylor Wheeler, he slotted straight in on ‘Rage All Over’, shredding with an intensity that matched the vibe of the song. A very happy man and a worthwhile trip the Black Heart on a Tuesday night.
