Up close with the funk-rock icons...

Red Hot Chili Peppers touched down on British soil this week, bringing the European leg of their stadium tour to the UK.

Guitarist John Frusciante is back in their ranks for the first time in over a decade, and the shows contain a rare degree of passion.

Basking in the warm glow fans halo'd on recent album 'Unlimited Love', the band match new material with a peerless stream of favourites.

Clash photographer Danny Payne travelled to Manchester this week, catching Red Hot Chili Peppers at the city's Emirates Old Trafford stadium.

Packed to the rafters, the crowd went wild during the lengthy set, one that touched on their roots while grappling with the present.

Check out these images from the show.
