Live Gallery: Marshall Funhouse – SXSW 2024

All the action from the special Austin, Texas event...

Marshall is one of the most iconic names in modern music, helping to power some of the most significant guitarists of the past 50 years. Touching down in Austin, Texas for the SXSW 2024, the Marshall team decided to try something pretty special, blending all-out legends with newcomers, and fusing international talent with local heroes.

Located at renowned Austin venue Parish, the Marshall Funhouse was where the action truly started and finished at this year’s SXSW. Grunge godfathers Dinosaur Jr. played an epic set, joined by Austin psychedelic legends The Black Angels on a bill that also found room for such disparate talented as newgen shoegaze outfit Snooper, local buzz band Die Spitz, and Japanese iconoclasts Chameleon Lime Whoopie-pie.

Working closely local partners Resound Presents and Ad.Ventures to bring Marshall Funhouse to life, the project was also injected with community flavour by SIMS Foundation, School of Rock, and global collective Women in Vinyl.

Each day, School of Rock would open the showcase, giving up and coming musicians their time on the Parish stage, before making way to some crucial performances from acts across the globe.

“Marshall show was fun, seeing young and old bands playing through Marshall amps. They can do
it all,” says J Mascis, frontman of Dinosaur Jr. “Sometimes people only think of heavy metal
bands playing through Marshalls, but they work equally well with all kinds of music. Clean or dirty.
Marshall won’t let you down. If it’s good enough for Hendrix, Stooges and MC5, it’s good enough
for me. My favourite guitar tone of all time is the first Stooges album, and that was a Marshall
stack! There’s a solid dependable quality to the Marshall sound you don’t get with other amps.”
