Live Gallery: Bloc Party – Crystal Palace Park, London

A celebration of the band's roots...

Has it really been so long…? According to Discogs – the only metric we accept these days – it’s somehow been 20 years since Bloc Party’s debut EP. The intervening years have done nothing to numb the power of those early recordings, however – precious, laden with intent, and fuelled by incredible ideas, the songwriting remains as fresh as the night we first heard it.

As part of their celebrations Bloc Party took to the stage at Crystal Palace Park with a spring in their step. Preparing a very special set list for fans, the group amplified the energy provided by their all-star support – The Mysterines! Friendly Fires! The Hives! – by tapping into some real fan favourites.

Opening up with ‘So Here We Are’ and ‘Like Eating Glass’ it was truly the stuff of dreams, zeroing in on those classic early cuts while adding a smattering of new. There was a few surprises, too, before the mammoth set closed with ‘The Prayer’, before a two-song encore – ‘Two More Years’ and ‘Ratchet’.
