Live At Leeds: In The City – Eight Acts You Simply Can’t Miss

Who to see at the emerging music bash...

The leaves are turning brown, the nights are getting darker, and everything seems to be pumpkin spiced – yep, to say festival season is over for another year would be a fair assumption.

Yet later this month Leeds city centre will see swathes of artists play a multitude of venues – including Belgrave Music Hall, Leeds Beckett Student Union, The Key Club and the city’s O2 Academy – for this year’s Live at Leeds: In the City.

Live At Leeds is the North’s leading festival for emerging talent, billing new voices in music alongside a few familiar faces. Headlining this year’s event is Pale Waves, Sundara Karma and White Lies; Swim Deep, Sea Power and Baby Queen are also set to play.

Notorious for celebrating emerging artists and bands, Live at Leeds will introduce many in attendance to their new favourite acts. Clash takes a look at few of the new acts set to play this year’s festival…

Claudia Valentina

21-year-old Claudia Valentia is a force to be reckoned with. Latest release ‘Sweat’ is a pop powerhouse, showcasing Claudia’s distinct vocal.

Despite arriving on the scene only two years ago, age 19, the Guernsey born artist has accrued a fanbase who have been onboard through her ongoing rise to stardom.

Connie Constance

Genre defying Watford born artists Connie Constance will play Live At Leeds: In The City this year. Quickly approaching the release of upcoming album ‘Miss Power’, Connie has proved herself to be an exciting new voice in indie-pop. Latest single ‘Mood Hoover’ is a witty ode to the complexities of relationships, platforming the Connie’s artistry and song writing talents. 

Cheap Teeth

Edinburgh group Cheap Teeth have spent the last few years playing numerous festivals and gigs around the country. Earning recognition for their DIY song writing and tapping into a post-punk sound reminiscent of bands that have emerged from Edinburgh’s vibrant music scene. 

The Gulps

Alan McGee signed outfit The Gulps hold no bars when it comes to what they define as their ‘Disco Punk’ sound. All hailing from different corners of Europe, the band bring a high energy, colourful set with tunes like ‘King of the Disco’. Due to play Live At Leeds: In The City on October 15th, the Gulps will no doubt bring a beyond exciting rock and roll set. 

Izzi De-Rosa

Tik-Tok sensation and previous student at Leeds University, Izzi De-Rosa, will be a special act to catch at LAL. Developing her sound in various bars and venues in Leeds, De-Rosa is certainly one to watch. Recently released single ‘love u in the morning’ is a modern take on vintage influences with elements of pop-punk, platforming De-Rosa’s self-aware lyricism and angsty vocal.

 Gigi Moss

Soulful and matchless vocal talents alongside her gift for penning honest lyrics, Gigi Moss is another act to look out for at this year’s Live At Leeds: In The City. The North London singer and songwriter recently released her EP ‘Too Hard To Love’ which features highly emotive ballad ‘Three Words’.

Baby Dave

Former Slaves frontman Isaac Holman began his solo project Baby Dave last year and has since played various festivals and headline gigs. Debut album ‘monkey brain’, produced by Damon Albarn, features tracks that hear Holman play various different instruments alongside singing lyrics that account experiences of struggles with mental health, all while displaying Holman’s quick wit and comedic flare.

Mollie Coddled

Leeds born artist Mollie Coddled is one to catch at this year’s Live At Leeds: In The City. Fusing alternative pop and indie to compliment her honest lyricism, Mollie Coddled is set to have an exciting 2023. Her upcoming EP ‘I wanna go home’, set to drop October 28th, is collection of tunes inspired by bedroom pop and hears the rising star sing honestly about her experience navigating life as a neuro-divergent person. 

Live At Leeds: In The City takes place on October 15th.
