LCD Soundsystem Steroids Claim

James Murphy needed stimulants

LCD Soundsystem mainman James Murphy has claimed he took steroids to complete ‘This Is Happening’.

Their first new album in some four years, LCD Soundsystem’s new effort ‘This Is Happening’ was recorded over mammoth sessions in Los Angeles.

Secluding himself in a remote mansion, James Murphy began constructing the group’s new material. However it seems that he was fuelled by more than just the adrenaline rush of the recording studio.

Speaking to the NME, James Murphy claimed that he needed a little help to get one vocal part right. ‘Dance Yrself Clean’ contains an extremely high vocal part, which the singer needed ‘performance enhancing drugs’ to achieve.

“It was last song I finished, I lost my voice trying to do it,” he explained. “It’s the highest register I’ve ever sung in.”

“The previous record was ‘On Repeat’ from the first album, after which I vowed never to write anything that high for myself. But then I got excited about a synth sound and forgot my vocal range and recorded it anyway.”

The producer revealed that his vocal cords were shot to pieces after lengthy bouts in the studio. “I had to sing it with a voice that was completely blown out, but then I took lots of steroids!” he declared.

“So I juiced for this record! It’s cheating, I’m cheating! I cheated to sing this song.”

LCD Soundsystem beat volcanoes and technical issues to open their UK tour recently. Completely sold out, it is their first appearance since James Murphy revealed that ‘This Is Happening’ would be their final album.
