Lady Gaga has joined Yoko Ono onstage at a tribute to her late husband John Lennon.
Yoko Ono is a provocative, colourful performer with an extremely individual attitude. Organising a tribute to her late husband John Lennon, the singer decided to invite Lady Gaga to perform onstage with her.
Taking place on Saturday night (October 2nd) the show at the Orpheum Theater was a spectacular tribute to John Lennon. The Plastic Ono Band played a lengthy set, joined by an array of guest stars.
During ‘Give Peace A Chance’ Yoko Ono turned to invite Lady Gaga onstage, with the American singer joining in on the classic anthem. Changing the lyrics, the pop icon reflected her support of changes to the US military policy of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’.
BBC News reports that the three hour show saw Lady Gaga sing two songs with the band. Speaking to the crowd, the pop icon said of Yoko Ono: “Thanks for being so brilliant and such an inspiration to so many women”.
Later, the icon followed up on this praise with a short Twitter message. “We are Plastic Ono. I got to sit in as a guest musician tonight, what a legendary band and mother, Yoko.”
The pair ended the lavish Los Angeles concert by lying on a grand piano together at the centre of the stage.
The concert is just one in a series of concerts celebrating the life of John Lennon. The former Beatle would have turned 70 later this month, with Yoko Ono set to lead celebrations in Iceland.
Elsewhere, Lennon’s hometown of Liverpool will pay tribute to the singer while a short ceremony will take place in New York’s Central Park – just a few hundred yards from the singer’s home in the Dakota building.
Watch out for ClashMusic’s tribute shortly.
