Hugely successful American electro singer Lady Gaga could be set to appear at this year’s Glastonbury festival.
Lady Gaga has been a stunning chart sensation in 2009. Barely known when last year’s calendars were shoved in the bin, she has taken Britain by storm. Debut single ‘Just Dance’ erupted onto the charts, seizing the number one slot for weeks at a time.
Parent album ‘The Fame’ has also been an enormous success, with the album only being knocked off the top spot by Bob Dylan. However the singer has had her fare share of detractors, with indie group The Rakes hitting out in a recent interview.
Those critics will be lining up to shoot down the singer after Lady Gaga was added to the bill for Glastonbury. The legendary festival got itself into hot water last year when Jay-Z was invited to headline, with none other than Noel Gallagher arguing that the event was a guitar-only weekend.
So far this year Glastonbury have confirmed performances from Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Franz Ferdinand, Doves and more. Throw Lady Gaga into that lot, and let the arguments commence!
Ms Gaga herself has been speaking out recent revealing a fondness for The Beatles. In a recent interview with the Daily Star the singer said “I don’t know if anyone knows this about me but when I wrote ‘The Fame’ I listened to The Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’ obsessively.”
“I had it on repeat for probably about six months. It’s so incredibly brilliant – an innate sense of joy – they really had that down. It’s full of joy with a hat of tips to the melancholy.”
Continuing Lady Gaga claimed that “without The Beatles I don’t think women would be taking their cardigans off in hallways.”
“They were responsible for the birth of the sexual revolution for women. Now we have the Jonas Brothers representing the return of the superfan.”
Pardon?
Lady Gaga’s debut album ‘The Fame’ is out now.
