Kurt Vile has added a free in-store appearance to his upcoming British tour dates.
A cult hero, Kurt Vile is a songwriter who seems to remain on the margins of society. Listening to his material suggests some classic influences – Dylan, Neil Young etc – viewed through a lysergic prism.
Unhinged but affecting, Kurt Vile both relies on and rejects a tradition of songwriting. Now signed to Matador, the artist has responded to this boost in his profile with his most confident and coherent collection yet.
Released earlier this year, ‘Smoke Rings For My Halo’ is a wonderful collection of songs. The production is kept simple but not sparse – Kurt Vile is given enough room to manoeuvre but never seems comfortable.
Winning warm reviews, the singer is now set to release another single from the album. ‘Jesus Fever’ is due to gain a standalone release, accompanied by a typically inventive video from the artist.
Produced by Klip Collective, director Ricardo Rivera helmed the shoot. Watch the video HERE.
Meanwhile, Kurt Vile is plotting his return to the UK. Currently on tour with J Mascis, the singer is planning a series of British dates opening in May.
Animal Collective booked the singer to perform at ATP, while headline dates include shows in London, Glasgow and Liverpool. Now Kurt Vile has added an extra in-store appearance at Rough Trade East.
Taking place on May 19th, the intimate show will allow Kurt Vile to blast through ‘Smoke Rings For My Halo’ to just a few customers.
Tickets are on sale now.
