Kraftwerk have confirmed plans to bring their 3-D audio-visual show to the Tate Modern for a full-scale retrospective.
Kraftwerk rarely play lives, with few British fans being privileged enough to have witnessed the German group in concert. All that is set to change next year, though, when the electronic pioneers bring their back catalogue to the Tate Modern.
Set to play the Turbine Room at the art gallery, Kraftwerk will unveil their full audio-visual show. Now broadcast in 3D, it finds the legendary German group re-invigorating their back catalogue with the very latest technology available to them.
'Kraftwerk The Catalogue 12345678' will run across eight nights, with each show being dedicated to a different set of material. Following a number of similar events, the group's first retrospective was held at The Museum of Modern Art, New York in 2012 and is set to be followed by a further presentation at Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf in January 2013.
The performances have been curated by Klaus Biesenbach, Chief Curator at Large, The Museum of Modern Art, Marion Ackermann, Artistic Director, Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen and Catherine Wood, Curator (Contemporary Art & Performance), Tate Modern.
Chris Dercon, Director, Tate Modern pointed out that the history of the venue made it the perfect location for a Kraftwerk show. “As a former power station, Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall is an ideal venue for Kraftwerk’s explorations of technology, energy and rhythm. Bringing together music, video and performance, these events will be true gesamtkunstwerk – a total work of art.”
Tickets are £60 and go on sale to the public on Wednesday 12 December 2012 at 07:30 GMT, exclusively at http://www.tate.org.uk/kraftwerk. Full ticket information is available online. There is a 4-ticket limit per person for a single show and it is not possible to buy tickets for the whole series.
