Jonsi has been forced to cancel a series of in store appearances, after admitting that the concept is not for him.
Jonsi is a vastly experienced performer, who has played music in venues across the globe. As the lead singer of Sigur Ros, the frontman has steered the group to international acclaim with a series of stunning albums.
Yet it seems that even hugely praised artists such as Jonsi need to draw the line somewhere. Organising a series of in store appearances across the United States, the singer has suddenly pulled out.
Issuing a short statement, Jonsi’s management have revealed that the singer was simply not sold on the project. Set to play a series of shows, the songwriter endured an uncomfortable first night before pulling the plug.
“We, the management, are going to take the blame here, since it was us who thought this was a great opportunity to counterpoint the weight and scale of production at his theatrical shows with something super low-key and intimate” a new statement explains.
“We talked him into it. And we stand by the fact that it is a great idea… on paper. Jonsi himself, however, was always sceptical about how in would pan out in reality. And standing there nose-to-nose with fans in the cold light of day the other day in Origami Records, Los Angeles, he had the sudden and undeniable realisation that this is not the environment in which he flourishes. Arguably it was the most uncomfortable experience of his ten years in the public eye, and as a result we are unwilling to put him in the line of fire again.”
Finally, the management finished with an apology to fan. “We can only say we are sorry, and ask for your understanding and forgiveness. And remember it’s not Jonsi’s fault. – John Best & Dean O’Connor”.
Jonsi’s upcoming Stateside headline tour – in proper venues – is set to go ahead as planned.
