A brand new festival is set to take place in Sheffield this summer, with Tramlines set to be curated by Jon McClure, Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helders and dancehall guru Toddla T.
Sheffield has long has a maverick streak amongst its musicians. A bastion of electronic music, the city birthed The Human League and Cabaret Voltaire before entering a long period of hibernation.
Sure, talents such as Jarvis Cocker and Richard Hawley would come to prominence to remind the nation that Sheffield was still producing great music, but in general the Northern city kept its jewels in its handbag.
All that could change with Tramlines. A massive four day event, the festival is due to take place a various venues across the city with a 4000 capacity main stage to be situated on Devonshire Green.
Amongst the ringleaders of this new venture are Jon ‘The Reverend’ McClure and Arctic Monkeys’ bassist Matt Helders. Wonky dancehall guru Toddla T is also due to have a hand in booking the acts, after the release of his stunning debut album.
Long held in high esteem in the dance world due to his cult dubplates, Toddla T is set to take a step into the mainstream with his debut album ‘Skanky Skanky’. Containing the superb Herve boosted single ‘Shake It’, the record is a dextrous display of Toddla T’s dancefloor filling production skills.
Amongst the first names confirmed for Tramlines are Little Boots, Pixie Lott and The Panics with many more due to be announced soon.
It is not known if the curators or associated acts will be performing at the festival. Jon McClure could well supply the bulk of the bill, with his groups including Reverend And The Makers, Mongrel and many more.
