Between 2017-2020 (and a bit longer, if anyone’s counting) Clash Live and Metropolis Studios have partnered to host a series of stellar live shows, showcasing some of the best talent in the land.

It’s been quite a trip. IAMDDB played Metropolis Studios a matter of weeks before her BBC Sound Of 2018 nomination, international guests dropped in whilst touring, and new artists honed their chops in world famous Studio A. The full list of artists taking part veers from feral South London grunge to St. Lucian production and back again.

Renowned for their high-end audio fixation, Clash & the Metropolis teams recorded each set, and it’s built up into a library of some of the best breaking artists in the country. All rights to recordings are retained by the artists to add these very special live tracks to their own catalogues. The series returned in March with Delilah Montagu serenading a packed Studio A on International Women’s Day styled by Ellesse, followed by Hak Baker in April taking the roof off with Yogi Footwear and MasterPeace in May jumping around the speaker stacks styled by Patrick.

Tuesday June 13th brings Jelani Blackman to the stage in partnership with the good folks at ellesse and you’re invited. ellesse will be styling Jelani with one of their signature looks from the new collection.

The experience is free for fans and guests to attend. Space is extremely limited and the demand is high so we are running a ticket lottery format via the sign-up form at the bottom of this page.

CLASH LIVE @ METROPOLIS STUDIOS TUESDAY 13TH JUNE 2023

Heavily influenced by R&B and soul, yet coming up at a time when Grime was everywhere, Jelani Blackman’s sound swerves stereotypes, blending the hard with the soft, the dark with the light; reflected in an impressively diverse roll-call of collaborators that runs from Gorillaz, Fraser T Smith and Ghetts all the way through to Brian Eno, Burna Boy, Wolf Alice, Kojey Radical and Biig Piig.

Forging his own lane in a UK scene bursting with talent, the tips from tastemakers have continued to roll in, spurred on by a now iconic COLORS Session and culminating in the release of his much celebrated Unlimited Mixtape at the end of 2021. Now free to perform the songs that blew up over lockdown, and with a host of new material ready to go, the next chapter starts now for one of the UK’s most unique and dynamic rappers.

The multi-faceted rapper has always had a soulful touch, an innate musicality that let him stand out from the pack. Continuing to surge ahead, Jelani’s latest song is a loved up hymn, an ode to commitment that leaves his feelings exposed.

Constructed alongside Biig Piig, the Nine8 Collective vocalist adds her neo-soul hues to Jelani Blackman’s evocative songwriting. Out now on 18 Records / MNRK UK, ‘Rise’ is as tender as they come – a beautifully affecting piece of music, one that revels in the quiet comforts of a relationship.

Speaking on the track, Jelani says…

“Being in love and waking up next to the person you wanna be with and the sun’s out is one of the best feelings in the world. Couldn’t have asked anyone better to share this song with; me and Biig Piig met last year at a festival, I think her voice and lyrics bring out all the feeling of that emotion.”

Biig Piig adds: “This song really captures a moment in time, when you’re with someone and love is so intense, it’s like the golden hour all the time”.
