A spectacular meeting of minds is due to take place in London next February with Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton set to share a stage.
The Yardbirds have a firm claim on bring one of the most influential acts to emerge from Britain during the 60s. Emerging from the R&B scene the band first made a star of their guitarist Eric Clapton.
Astonishingly, Clapton’s departure heralded the emergence of a new guitar god – Jeff Beck. Perhaps the guitar player’s guitar hero his work with The Jeff Beck Group paved the way for the heavy rock era.
To cap it all off, Jeff Beck was eventually replaced in The Yardbirds by none other than Jimmy Page. Together, the trio helped push rock ‘n’ roll into the modern era, bringing a new versatility rooted in the blues.
In a new announcement it has been confirmed that Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton are set to perform together in London’s O2 Arena next year. The pair had previously only jammed onstage at festivals and fund raisers, before a historic meeting at Japan earlier this year.
The twin guitar giants performed at the Saitama Super Arena in February, sparking a global rush for tickets. Both Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton has spoken about the upcoming London show, revealing their excitement at the event.
“Eric and I played together in Japan earlier this year and had a blast. Since then we have been in regular contact and talked about doing a similar show for our fans. Looking forward to the show in 2010,” said Jeff Beck.
Eric Clapton echoed Beck’s sentiments. “I’ve always considered Jeff Beck to be one of the finest guitar players around. He’s a friend, a great guy, and a truly gifted musician. We had such a fun time in Japan that it seemed natural to play together again”.
