Indie icon Jarvis Cocker is set to headline this year’s very special instalment of the Welsh wyrd folk event Green Man.
Jarvis Cocker remains an enthralling performer, some time after Pulp disintegrated. The singer released his debut solo album ‘Jarvis’ in 2006, before signing to Rough Trade last year.
Performing on the label’s anniversary tour, Jarvis Cocker treated fans to a preview of some startling new material. Gathered on the forthcoming album ‘Further Complications’ the singer makes a striking addition to the line up of Green Man.
However Labour supporters may not be happy to see him. In a new interview with GQ magazine Jarvis Cocker claims that “Labour has been in power for a certain amount of time and (apart from the Conservatives) there is no credible alternative, so if you’re not going to have Labour you’re going to have the Conservatives. You can sense an era passing.”
Founded by alt folk duo It’s Jo And Danny, Green Man has grown from strength to strength since moving to its current site of Brecon Beacons. This year the organisers employed genuine druids fresh from Stonehenge to bless the festival, so at least we’ll be guaranteed some nice weather.
Jarvis Cocker headlines a bill that includes some genuine musical legends. American country giants Wilco are regarded as being one of the most inspirational groups of their generation, and Jeff Tweedy’s group will perform a very special set at the Welsh event.
Joining the band are Animal Collective, whose album ‘Merriweather Post Pavillion’ has gathered some sensational reviews. In addition to this Green Man has secured some spectacular performances from psychedelic legend Roky Erickson, Mexican hero Rodriguez and Scottish folk troupe The Fence Collective.
In addition to that, organisers have been able to confirm a European exclusive performance from Dirty Three – featuring Nick Cave cohort Warren Ellis – as well as sets by young guns Emmy The Great, Blue Roses and James Yuill.
Green Man is set to take place between August 21st – 23rd.
