American funk-rock gods Jane’s Addiction have cancelled upcoming Australian dates after percussionist Stephen Perkins was admitted to hospital.
Jane’s Addiction are a force of nature. After over two decades of rock-fuelled debauchery, countless bust ups and numerous official splits the band are still going strong, touring the world and entertaining millions of fans.
The band are part of double bill featuring Nine Inch Nails. The new tour comprises two of the most popular bands in American rock music, with Trent Reznor playing his final large-scale tour before putting Nine Inch Nails to bed.
The pair recently played T In The Park, with Jane’s Addiction being booed by portions of the crowd and singer Perry Farrell returning a verbal volley to the front row.
The band arrived late, having their set pushed back after The Ting Tings over-ran. Running through their swaggering anthems the band played just seven songs – but rocked nonetheless.
Now making their way to Australia, Jane’s Addiction have been forced to cancel numerous dates in the land Down Under. Percussionist Stephen Perkins has been admitted to the Infectious Disease Ward at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles for treatment of an infection in his elbow.
Whilst he is expected to make a full recovery, Perkins will be contained at the hospital for a short period while the anti-biotic treatment continues. The musician noticed severe swelling in his elbow, leading to the discovery of the infection.
The band are set for a busy summer. Jane’s Addiction are due to headline Chicago’s Lollapalooza festival, an event that was partly founded by singer Perry Farrell. Originally a travelling event, Lollapalooza was like a debauched rock circus that traversed America.
Now settled in Chicago, the event remains one of the biggest and most important musical events in the United States.
Jane’s Addiction were set to begin their Australian tour on Saturday (July 25th). There has been no confirmation of any re-scheduled appearances.
