Jamie xx has emerged as one of the year’s most influential and creative young producers. Re-working Gil Scott Heron’s final album ‘I’m New Here’ the beatsmith seemed to tap into something which crossed genre lines.
Producing cuts such as ‘I’ll Take Care Of You’ the album was followed by a much hyped 12 inch for Glasgow based imprint Numbers. Straddling indie, bass and house Jamie xx is now apparently working on fresh solo material, which you can preview in the video below.
The producer is set to collaborate with visual artist Quayola for the first ever RizLab performance later this week. Taking place on August 11th, the three hour set will blend some previously unheard music with groundbreaking visuals.
Quayola is a hugely respected visual artist, who will be using some specially prepared software to produce some bespoke imagery. Reflecting on the collaboration, Jamie xx said recently: “Having played at so many parties this year, it’s exciting to be able to use Quayola’s work to immerse the crowd deeper into the whole experience.”
Taking place in the Classic Car Club in Shoreditch, the first instalment of the RizLab has been curated in part by Eat Your Own Ears promoter Tom Baker: “Jamie xx is a true creative talent who is perfect for RizLab; someone who has a wealth of creative ideas and ambitions that he wants to fulfil and someone that will excite and inspire our audience.”
Jamie xx / Quayola will enter the RizLab at Classic Car Club in Shoreditch this Thursday (August 11th).
