Introducing… Raw Power Festival

Corsica studios plan summer event

In an age of were festival ticket prices are flying into the stratosphere it’s nice to see something as home grown as next months Raw Power festival come out of the blue.

Promising real substance and style as well as bringing ‘the best in proto-punk, synth metal, psychedelic freak beat, krautrock and shoegaze’ together, it’s safe to save this one day affair is catered for those not bothered with catching Beyonce at Glastonbury. Taking place at London’s Corsica Studios the powers that be have forged an intense mix of live bands and DJ’s for ones more alternative listening pleasure.

Kicking off on Sunday the 10th of July the impressive line up includes US big noise Trans Am as well as Bo Ningen, Part Champ, Gallops, Koolaid Electric Company, Ankles (SchwaB), Black Daniel, Race Horses, thelightshines, The Neat, Cult of Dom Keller, Hold Kiss Kill plus more.

Still, music alone does not equal a true festival, there needs to be other distractions. Luckily Raw Power comes complete with a outdoor areas full of all day BBQ, the intriguingly named Kool-Aid cocktail bar, film screenings, acoustic sets, blues players, honky-tonk piano, live painting, games, zine and record stalls, vintage clothes and jewellery.

If that isn’t enough you can still relax with a good old fashion, sing-along covering tracks from Hukuna Matata to Lou Reed’s Perfect Day whilst you watch the smoke clouds from your shisha pipe drift away. The icing on the cake is that if you hurry advance tickets are going for the attractive sum of £12.50. Those in the know will already be aware of Corsicas’ reputation for setting up creative spaces all over the capital not to mention their proven ability to throw a good event.

All efforts have been made this time around, bands dragged from as far as Japan to deliver their own twisted noise for the lucky few. Being a non-profit organisation insures the art comes first and not the business, so expect a real and sadly now near extinct D.I.Y festival vibe. As they say themselves ‘It’s what Corsica Studios is all about, not holding onto that love – just giving it out!’ Not in the mood to suffer the crowds and toilets this summer? Get down to Elephant and Castle, grab a drink and have some Raw Power at ya.

Limited £12.50 advance tickets recommended from
