Stormzy is a national treasure. A Black British icon who broke the glass ceiling for his peers, he’s claimed more records than we care to mention.
Above all else, Stormzy seems to rejoice in uplifting those around him, in creating platforms for others to flourish. It’s in the DNA of his #Merky endeavours, from publishing to sport – with music at the centre of it all.
Over the weekend, Stormzy took control of East London’s huge All Points East festival for a truly special day of programming. Allowed to curate the day, he picked an eclectic bill that moved from Lucky Daye to Sampha, from Kehlani to 0207 Def Jam riser Debbie.
The crowds seemed to adore each performance, defying the weather to turn the freshly re-christened This Is What We Mean Day into a celebration.
Closing with an emphatic performance from Stormzy, this turned into one of summer’s true highlights, a moment to be cherished for both fans and artists.
Photographer Ben McQuaide got up close to capture the action.
