Longstanding Scottish rockers Idlewild have confirmed a series of tour dates for March.
Idlewild celebrated the decade as one of the elder statesmen of Scottish rock music. A bizarre proposition for a band who must have grown accustomed to being viewed as ‘the next big thing’ for the bulk of their career.
Formed in Edinburgh the band preceded the whole indie boom. In fact, Idlewild were never called ‘indie’ on their first few releases – instead being labelled post grunge noiseniks by a label hungry press.
Gradually moving beyond their noisy origins, Idlewild’s natural songwriting ability began to shine turning the group into critical darlings. With a few nods to REM as well as Britain’s folk tradition the group released a series of acclaimed albums.
Now at home on their own label, Idlewild self-released their new album ‘Post Electric Blues’ in October. A collection of fired up anthems the album failed to reach beyond their devoted fan base.
Hopefully with a busy tour schedule Idlewild can force their way back into the mainstream, although with a ten year career behind them the band could be forgiven for having higher ambitions.
Opening on March 3rd in Bristol the new tour takes in dates across the country. With more dates being announced soon Idlewild are set to demonstrate that old age should rage agains t the dying of the light.
