New Romantic legends The Human League are set to play a very special set at this year’s Isle Of Wight festival – but for campers only.
Formed in Sheffield in the mid 70s, The Human League were making electronic pop before the bulk of British music fans had even heard of the concept. The group were rocked by the departure of two founding members, with singer Phil Oakey recruiting two young girls from a local disco.
Oakey’s superior pop vision ruled the day, however, with The Human League going on to score several global hits. Still recording and touring, the band have been confirmed to play this summer’s Isle Of Wight festival. In a twist the organisers have booked them to play on June 11th – a day before the event officially opens.
The band will play to campers only in The Big Top. The Human League will be joined by tribute band The Complete Stone Roses for a very special performance.
This year organisers have handed over the Big Top to The Charlatans, who will curate the arena for the weekend. With a bill combining some of their heroes with hotly tipped newcomers, the festival will be topped off with a performance by The Charlatans themselves.
Headliners for this summer’s instalment of the Isle Of Wight festival include rave heroes The Prodigy, Welsh rock gods Stereophonics and a very special performance from Neil Young.
Also scheduled to appear at the event are Razorlight, Pixies, The Rifles, The Zombies and Scottish fun loving singer Paulo Nutini.
Isle Of Wight festival is due to take place between June 12th – 14th.
